Eyebeam is thrilled to announce its 2014 Spring/Summer Residents. Residents are provided with funds to complete a specific project during a five-month residency cycle beginning in mid-February. These select artists form the core of Eyebeam’s community by generating new work and presenting it to the public, resulting in a critical examination of social, political and aesthetic implications of technology.

In our Spring/Summer 2014 Residency Open Call, we focused the residency program on two lines of inquiry: 

1) Information Ownership Inside The Surveillance State —  Privacy has become a luxury,  and society is increasingly becoming divided between those who control information and those whose information is controlled. Eyebeam looks to support artists and technologists who are working to understand this situation more deeply and offer critique and solutions to the emerging dilemma

 

On July 1, 2014 Eyebeam will be moving to transitional space for approximately  two years, until its relocation in late 2016 to a new mixed-use building in the BAM Cultural District in Downtown Brooklyn. During this transition, Eyebeam is launching Eyebeam On The Move, a fellowship program designed to support artists’ technology-based projects that incorporate collaborative forms of architectural practice, urban presentation, policy engagement and other forms of meaningful community dialog.

Dear Eyebeam supporters,

Today, Eyebeam is kicking off our annual year-end fundraiser and we are asking for your support as we enter the next exciting chapter in the organization’s history.

 

The White Building and Eyebeam are thrilled to announce the inaugural recipient of this first-of-its kind joint residency program is James Bridle. The 5-month residency will begin in mid January of 2014 and run through June of 2014, the first half of the time will be spent at SPACE-run centre, The White Building, London and the second half at Eyebeam, New York.

Bridle’s proposed project sits at the intersection of all five of the areas of the residency call's inquiry. James’s research into the New Aesthetic (a term the artist coined) crosses into many areas of art, society and politics, examining the ways we explain technology to ourselves. In this project, James plans to address the ways in which the New Aesthetic might be considered specifically queer, and what can be learned from that reading of it.

Eyebeam is pleased to announce its Open Call for 2014 Spring / Summer Residencies. Up to 4 Residents will join continuing Fellows and Residents in February 2014 at Eyebeam's shared design, research, and fabrication labs.

In brief, Eyebeam Residents are selected from a semiannual open call and receive a 5-month residency with stipend in support of project realization.

EVENT DATE: Tuesday, November 19, 5 - 9pm

As part of the Computational Fashion initiative, Eyebeam is hosting a Fashion and Wearable Tech Demo Night on November 19. We’re looking for compelling product ideas and emerging startups who are working at the intersection of (wearable) technology, garments, jewelry, and accessories. Each participant will get a table in Eyebeam's exhibition space to do informal presentations and demonstrations.

Participants must have a finished product or working prototype that is intended for the commercial market. Sorry, we're not looking for student projects or work that is only in concept stage at this time.

 

Public Knowledge and Eyebeam are thrilled to announce the inaugural recipient of this first-of-its kind joint residency program: Elisa Kreisinger! Elisa will participate in an initial 2-week orientation and familiarization process at Public Knowledge's Washington, D.C. offices and then work at Eyebeam, with our community, facilities and equipment, to produce a new work that will have a clear relationship to both organizations’ shared issue areas.

Public Knowledge is a public interest advocacy organization in Washington, DC that seeks to ensure that copyright law and communications policy promote creativity, free speech, and democratic values.

 

This call is open to all Chinese artists including Taiwan, Hong Kong and Chinese nationals living / working overseas.

With the generous support of Carroll / Fletcher Gallery, a London based contemporary art gallery, TASML is pleased to announce its new artist residence award: TASML | Carroll Fletcher Chinese Artist Residence Award. The award will provide emerging Chinese media artists with an unique opportunity to engage with cutting edge research and production at the intersection of art, science and technology in some of the most innovative media art and design laboratories around the world. From March 2013 until February 2015, two artists will be selected annually through an international open-call for proposal submissions.

 

We are thrilled to announce the 2013 Fall/Winter Residents! Since the organization's founding in 1997, Eyebeam has supported over 250 artists and technologists through its residency and fellowship programs. Residents are provided with funds to complete a specific project during five-month residency cycles in the fall and spring; Fellows are selected based on a body of work and given 11 months to develop their practice. These select artists form the core of Eyebeam’s community by generating new work and interacting with the public, resulting in a critical examination of social, political and aesthetic implications of technology.

 

Eyebeam is teaming up with the SPACE-run art centre, The White Building in London for a collaborative residency. The call is focusing on 5 provocative focus inquiries around art and technology, listed below.

1.What is the role of authenticity in the current creative situation? Digital technologies are built to reproduce themselves in perfect copies -- this is antithetical to notions of single authorship. What is authentic; can there be a single author anymore?
